Overview. Released in August 2000, the BMW E46 Mk.I (E46.I) 3-Series convertible was a four-seat convertible with a power-operated, soft-top roof. Depending on what maintenance has been done, expect to pour another $1-2k into it in parts to bring it up to snuff. If you decide you can forego the ZHP, a closer price would be $7,500 and up for a non-ZHP E46. Maintenance will be basically the same between a non-ZHP E46 and a ZHP E46. If you decide to go for a non-ZHP E46, I definitely suggest
I've had three three series (two e46) and an X3, and am now looking at a 135i that is a good value. I liked the 1-series much more than the new 3-series, but I actually would almost prefer the 128 because honestly, the turbo scares me a little -- I usually drive my BMWs to well over 100k.

BMW's get pricey to maintain, and modifications are more expensive. G35's are cheaper to maintain and easier to modify, but don't look nearly as good as the Ci Coupe. The Ci is an E46 car, which was the series just before the E90. My personal 330i is the E90 variant, which is up-tuned form the E46 car, stiffer suspension, but also a bit fatter.
